From the Syracuse suburbs to the North Country, Central New Yorkers have strong Medicare options — and a few local wrinkles worth knowing. The Pane Agency helps beneficiaries across Onondaga and Jefferson County, including Syracuse, Fayetteville, Manlius, Solvay, Camillus, Cicero, Liverpool, Baldwinsville, Watertown, and Clayton.
The Central New York Medicare Landscape
The Syracuse metro has robust Medicare Advantage enrollment, supported by established regional health plans and a strong hospital network — Upstate University Hospital, St. Joseph's Health, and Crouse Health all anchor the area. Farther north around Watertown, Samaritan Medical Center is the main hub. As always, the best plan depends on your specific doctors, your prescriptions, and your budget.
Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement in CNY?
In and around Syracuse, competitive Advantage plans work well for many people — especially with a low premium and built-in extras, when their providers are in-network. But in the more rural North Country (Watertown, Clayton, and the surrounding towns), Medicare Advantage networks can be thin, which makes a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan genuinely attractive: it lets you see any provider who accepts Medicare, anywhere, with no network to worry about.
Rural access matters: If getting to an in-network specialist means a long drive, Medigap's "any provider, anywhere" freedom can be worth the premium. And because New York offers guaranteed-issue Medigap year-round, you can't be turned down for health reasons. See Medicare Advantage vs. Original Medicare.
